Dzagbe Cudjoe

International Healer, Qualified Dance & Movement
Therapist and world-renowned author.
 This is Dzagbe.
Dzagbe Cudjoe was born in Chesham, England. She was educated there and in Ghana and
holds an MA degree in Ethnology from Luedwig-Maximilian's University in Germany.

Her experience as an ethnologist has included work at German, Ghanaian and Nigerian
museums and universities. Dzagbe's research experience has been varied but has
concentrated on West African Traditional Religions.

She is also a qualified Dance and Movement Therapist. The turning point for her occurred
while attending a physical theatre and dance course. She was at a low point in her life and
the part of the course on how to transform ideas and feelings into dance allowed her to
personally experience the therapeutic and restorative power of dance.

Dzagbe has worked with adults suffering from a wide range of problems but her special area
has been children who have special needs. As a result of her successful experience of
improvisational dance with children with special needs she has written a manual for the
parents and carers of such children in which she encourages them to set up their own
Dance Movement Therapy groups. Nothing she suggests in "Dance to Health - Help Your
Special Needs Child Through Inspirational Dance" is dangerous or beyond the capabilities
of the average parent or carer.

Besides the manual Dzagbe has produced a DVD "Dance in Our Footsteps" which features
three dances from the Northern Region of Ghana.

Although Dzagbe was Publications Editor for "New Culture" magazine in Ibadan, Nigeria
"Tales My Ghanaian Grandmother Told Me" is her first book. She is keenly aware that in
many parts of the world there are serious problems amongst the young due to poverty, poor
education, a lack of social cohesion and generally accepted moral standards.

In the big cities youths are carrying weapons and murders are becoming increasingly
common. Dzagbe feels that everywhere there are large numbers of parents looking for ways
of giving their children information on other more structured and peaceful societies. Today’s
young Africans often do not understand or appreciate that traditional African society can still
teach the developed world many lessons. Parents are also seeking to teach their children a
morality that all human beings can agree on. Her stories impart a feeling of self-worth to
children.

Dzagbe has an interest in community activities. She is a past Honorary Secretary of the
Anglo-Ghanaian Society, was a Befriender for a Mental Health Charity, was Co-Chair of the
Bath Black Mental Health Group and a Fund Raiser for the charity Action on Disability and
Development.

She has also taught English in Mexico and Indonesia. Dzagbe has two sons and a daughter.
She lives in Andalucia, Spain.
