Alphabet Matching In our Alphabet download section you will find an assortment of puzzles, all relating to identifying and matching the alphabet. Print onto card, cut out and have fun! Alphabet Collage Have the children cut out letters from magazines and glue them onto a piece of paper. Alphabet Collage Pick one letter. Make that letter out of construction paper. Have the children cut that letter out of magazines and glue them to the letter. Glue Letters Place glue on a piece of paper in the shape of the desired letter. Have the children place glitter, coloured rice or koolaid on the glue. Contact Paper Art You will need a picture of a letter. A reverse image is needed if the letter can be backwards, such as the letter "E". Place the image on the table and place a piece of contact paper, sticky side up over the image. (Pieces of a plastic lei were used for the photo of this project) Children use the scraps to create the image on the contact paper. Letter Necklaces Supply the children with letter shaped beads and yarn. You child also have the children cut out letter shapes from construction paper. Then, have them use a hole punch to make a hole, so they can thread them onto a piece of yarn. Alphabet Picture Dictionaries My girls & I had great fun. I used the reverse side of paper that would otherwise have gone to waste (I have tons of it after printing in my own business). I boung a book for each girl, and the cousins and friends who visited. I added a hardvocer top and bottom which the girls decorated in letters cut out of magazines. This is called their "Alphabet Picture Book". Each 2nd page was labelled "A", "B" and so on. The girls were given a task of cutting out pictures from magazines beginning with that letter and gluing it into the appropriate page. They had enormous fun, made an enormous mess but the end result was great! Alphabet Word Dictionary I did a similar thing with the alphabet, making the same sort of scrapbook type of book, but instead of looking for pictures beginning with that letter, they searched for words and letters matching to the letter in their book. Again they decorated their pages with glitter glue, stars and sequins and the end result was fantastic. I found that a few pages at a time was more than they could handle so it was a "fun" time project that they did when they needed a break from regular "stuff"... Rainbow Words To practice spelling words, I have each child choose one crayon. The students work in groups of three. Each student is given a worksheet, and he or she writes the first word on the worksheet. Each student does this at the same time. They then pass only the paper to the right and trace the word with their crayon. They use the same colour crayon they initially selected. They then pass the sheet one more time and trace the word. When each student receives his or her paper back, he or she writes the second word down and the process is repeated. Each child will receive his/her paper back with the spelling words traced 3 times...Rainbow words." |
