How to Create an Apple Doll

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
This how-to shows you how to make a really cool doll, made of an apple! Just follow these 6 easy steps.

Steps

  1. Take a medium-sized apple, and peel it. Crisp apples such as Granny Smith or Gala Empire are best but soft ones work fine.
  2. Take a small knife, can be plastic or real, and form a nose, eyebrows, mouth and eyes. Optional - add some little cuts and dents all over the 'flesh' of the doll.
  3. Once the apple looks really cut up, stop.
  4. Dissolve 15cc (1 Tbsp.) salt in 300ml lemon juice (~1 cup)
  5. Soak the apple in the lemon juice for a half hour.
  6. Get it started drying in a 100 ^F oven for an hour or two. Parchment paper under the apple, and turning it a few times, will help prevent a soppy underside.
  7. Leave the apple to dry out for several days. It will be drier than wet to touch, and rubbery to pressure. Once it is dried out enough, it should look like the face of an old woman.
  8. Create a body out of a rag. Drive a skewer up through the stem axis and introduce a doubled-over pipe cleaner or small dowel to support the apple's weight.
  9. Add limbs (twisted pipe cleaners), hair, clothing, hat, broomstick, tiny iPod, etc.
  10. Viola! You've made an apple doll.

Tips

  • It doesn't have to be a woman.
  • If you want it to look really good, carve the nose, mouth and cheeks out.

Warnings

  • Make sure it dries long enough.
  • Be careful with the knife.

Things You'll Need

  • Apple.
  • Knife (preferably small but sharp)
  • (optional) rag to make a body, newspaper to put it on
