The Dogon call the ANTELOPE mask a WALU, it is believed that the first successful hunting party came back with an antelope. If you want to do the Dogon WALU dance, put on the mask, and strike the ground with your hand. This represents an antelope grazing on grassy plains.
The HUNTER mask is made to look dangerous because animals are afraid of hunters. The Dogon HUNTER mask uses real animal bones for teeth! During the Dama the HUNTER chases the RABBIT, so get your friend to be the RABBIT and chase him or her around.
The Dogon believe that birds are the link between man, heaven and earth. If you want to do the Dogon BIRD dance, put it on, and jump up and down, like your flying. Pointing the tip of the mask toward the ground symbolizes the connection between heaven and earth.
This is a rabbit mask. The rabbit is hunted by the Dogon, for food. But the RABBIT is fast and often gets away, so in if you want to do the RABBIT dance, pretend to run away from a HUNTER.
