We would like to take a moment and reflect on the many brave men and women who have
given their lives in the service and protection of The USA,, both past and present. We
additionally would like to thank all of those Veteran brothers and sisters, active and reserve
military. Your service, sacrifice, honour and courage has protected the American people and has
preserved their Freedom.

While not celebrated in many countries throughout the world, we stop for a moment of silence
and appreciation in that those servicemen and women (of both the US Military and Allied Forces)
have been and are instrumental universally in bringing relief, peacekeeping, encouragement
and education to the millions of people who have been affected by either war, strife, conflict,
natural disasters, hunger and poverty.

To the US & Allied Armed Forces "We salute you ".

Memorial Day
Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day is a federal holiday that commemorates
American heroes who have died in military service to our country. It is a day to come together
and remember  fallen heroes, our loved ones and family members who have passed away, it is a
day to give thanks and prayers to U.S. Veterans and active military.

Brief History
At the end of the Civil War, the first Memorial Day was said to have occurred in Charleston, S.C.
in 1865, where a patriotic parade with singing took place honouring the lost soldiers. However,
historians today consider Waterloo, NY as the official birthplace of Memorial Day, as this location
was the first to honour the day each year, beginning in 1866 and promoting its growth.

General John A. Logan, commander-in-chief of the Veterans' organisation Grand Army of the
Republic, proclaimed in 1868 that "Decoration Day" be observed nationwide. On May 30, 1868,
the tombs of fallen U.S. soldiers were decorated in remembrance.

With the end of WWI, Memorial day was expanded to include all American soldiers who had died
in war or military action. Traditionally taking place on May 30th, Memorial Day was changed in
1968 to the last Monday of May.

Ways to Honour
Memorial Day is additionally a time to come together and reunite with family and friends, to
share in expressing respect and appreciation for our military personnel.

On Memorial Day around the country:
  • People will visit cemeteries and memorials;
  • A National Moment of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m.;
  • The U.S. Flag at half-staff will be flown from dawn until noon local time;
  • Parades, picnics and sporting events will take place;
  • Since 1911, traditionally the Indianapolis 500 has been held in conjunction with Memorial
    Day;
  • And many other honourable events.
